Force Yourself to Network

When you go out of town to a big work-related conference, it can often be overwhelming. The temptation to sit back, have a few drinks and relax after listening to speakers and attending workshops all day can be powerful, especially for those of us who are a little bit shy to begin with. Before you go back to your hotel room (or get too sauced at the bar), though, you should force yourself to meet and exchange contact info with at least three other folks. That seems to be the consensus in a particularly interesting comment thread on LifeHacker which also has some cool suggestions on how to make introductions (hang out by the food) and how to get people to follow up with you (write specific questions for them on the back of your card).
